HEART OF A CHAMPION – RICHARD PETTY

HEART OF A CHAMPION – RICHARD PETTY

Well, I’m very proud to say, “I’ve interviewed the legendary King of Stock Car Racing, Richard Petty.” I sneaked up on him boarding his helicopter to leave the then, ‘Sears Point Raceway’.

He was so humble and articulate that it was disarming. He could charm an Eskimo out his Eskimo Pie. He was asked, “who were his hero’s?” and he replied, “my dad.” When asked about his own greatness he seemed somewhat less comfortable addressing that. When asked, “how he would most like to be remembered?” he simply said, “a driver who gave it all.”

Richard Petty always gave it all and some of the videos below will show he gave even more.

Richard was a seven time Champion. He was revered, reviled and recognized, as the single most important driver NASCAR has ever had. There have been other great ones since but, he was the first NASCAR driver to transcend the sport itself. Everyone has heard of ‘The King’ Richard Petty and therein lays his ultimate importance to NASCAR. Richard Petty is a living legend an Icon and there will never be another one.

…Oh, one other question I asked, “who would you like to play yourself in a movie?” he said “Clint Eastwood.”

Richard Petty- The King.
